This exciting position within Merck Global Structural Biology at West Point, Pa. will support drug lead discovery & optimization through the determination of the X-ray structures of proteins. You will perform crystallization, crystal optimization & structure determination of protein-ligand complexes & will work with medicinal & computational chemists. You will also work closely with molecular biologists & protein biochemists and have access to automated cloning, expression and crystallization technologies.
The position involves active interaction with the internal & external scientific community, including presentations at national or international meetings, to continually improve scientific understanding.
1. PhD degree with at least 3 years’ postdoctoral training in protein crystallography (Senior Research Biochemist) or PhD degree with at least 3-6 years’ postdoctoral training or industry experience in protein crystallography (Research Fellow).
2. Excellent communication & scientific skills.
3. Ability to work within timelines.
4. Experience with molecular biology and protein biochemistry is preferred.
5. Experience in the application of biophysical characterization methods (e.g., protein NMR, Biacore, Thermoflor) or functional properties (e.g., enzyme kinetics) is preferred.
6. Experience with membrane protein crystallography or structural genomics is a plus
7. Ability to prepare peer-reviewed publications.
8. Demonstrated potential to develop project management skills & identify/develop new areas of scientific expertise in protein crystallography.
9. Previous industrial experience is a plus.
