Leader in innate immunity makes key appointment as it moves towards later-stage clinical development with a broader portfolio of drug candidates

Marseille, October 10, 2005 - Innate Phar ma, a French biotechnology company focused on cancer immunotherapy through the manipulation of the innate immune system, announced today the appointment of Patrick Squiban M.D. as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Squiban will be responsible for medical, regulatory and clinical development strategies.

Dr. Squiban, 53, joined Innate Pharma after eight years at Transgene (1997-2005), a French company dedicated to the discovery and development of therapeutic vaccines and gene therapy products, as Director of Medical Affairs Europe and then as Vice President, Medical and Regulatory Affairs.

Before Transgene, Dr. Squiban worked for Novo Nordisk A/S (1986-1997), a Danish biopharmaceutical group, as Medical Director of Novo Nordisk France and Vice President, Pharmacology and Medical Affairs for Zymogenetics, at the time a United States biotech subsidiary of Novo Nordisk A/S. Dr. Squiban started his career as Product Manager for Boehringer Ingelheim after graduating from the Paris Medical School in 1981.

Dr. Squiban has gained extensive experience in drug development, particularly in biotechnologies, covering a wide range of therapeutic fields, such as cardiovascular, diabetes, oncology, infectious diseases, and gene transfer technology. He is also active in various Europabio working groups (gene therapy, orphan medicinal products, etc.) and serves on both the Europabio Healthcare Council and the Inserm Cossec committee, as an expert in charge of evaluating academic clinical research projects for Inserm, the French Institute of Health & Medical Research. Dr. Squiban is also involved in several academic programs, particularly in the field of clinical development.

“The appointment of Patrick Squiban is an important milestone for Innate Pharma,” said Hervé Brailly, CEO of the company. “His talent and experience will be crucial now that we plan to enter into later-stage clinical development with a broader portfolio of drug candidates. This also completes our management team, now optimized for the current stage of development of the company.”
